About Zoey Yan
Zoey Yan is an associate therapist with over two years of clinical experience providing counseling services to both children and adults. During her internship, she also gained experience supporting students in elementary, middle, and high school settings in Virginia Beach. She earned a dual Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling from the University of Pennsylvania in 2023 and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Old Dominion University in 2018.
As a person-centered and multicultural counselor, she strives to understand each client within their cultural, social, and political contexts, moving beyond traditional individualistic approaches to care. She is committed to creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore their experiences, deepen self-awareness, and foster meaningful growth.
She provides individual and small group counseling for clients ages 6 and up. My clinical interests include depression, PTSD, anxiety, borderline personality disorder (BPD), bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), substance use disorders, disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD), personality disorders, grief and loss, and parent training.
Her therapeutic approach integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Contingency Management (CM), and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). She tailors these evidence-based approaches to meet each client’s unique needs and goals.
Outside of her professional work, she enjoys drawing, listening to music, walking and hiking, traveling, watching movies and comedies, reading, and continually learning new things.
