About Laura Baird
My name is Laura Baird and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor here at DBMC. I see therapy as a calling and I have a passion for the intuitive process of collaborative work with clients in understanding how various stressors/obstacles/symptoms/losses impact a person in order to help each person reach individual goals for growth, change, and improved quality of life. I have over 30 years of experience in a variety of hospital and agency settings, and I have been in private practice for over 20 years. I specialize in treating ADHD in adults, adolescents, and children, where I have devoted myself to creating my own specialized treatment plan for attention and focus training and improvement. I am also experienced in working with Autism, Mood Disorders, Bipolar, Personality Disorders, Psychotic Illness, and PTSD. I am comfortable seeing individuals, couples, and families. I see the individual in terms of what each person can become. I see therapy as a tool to help individuals bridge that gap between limitations and the self’s desired experience of newfound freedom and authenticity. I am well-versed as an intensive therapist in the role of: temperament, childhood imprints. personality type, narrative story/experiences, mastery/defenses, and attachment style. Understanding that our relationships or absence of relationships, and early care-giver relationships, influence our sense of self, but aren’t fixed, and therefore any limiting patterns can be overcome and changed with education, support, and practice. I am sensitive to life’s contradictions and I understand that things aren’t always as they seem. I empathize with the weight of burdens that so many people today face and with the specific difficult life circumstances you may find yourself in. We hear about the loneliness epidemic, and how technology can improve our lives or leave us feeling even more disconnected from others. If you are experiencing grief/loss financial strain/workplace stress, divorce, family/blended family conflict or identity issues, I would like to help. I know from years of experience that intensive therapy is the sacred work capable of enabling an individual, couple, or family, to evolve, grow, and improve functioning in various life areas: love and work, choices, behaviors, as well as in day-to-day actions. I believe that through increased self-awareness you can use your strengths to live and love better. If you find yourself struggling, lacking in motivation, overwhelmed and unsure of the next steps, I invite you to consider starting the counseling process. I am a wife, mother to adult daughters, a published poet, and interested in sustainable living and exploring/protecting habits of wellness and resilience.
