About Jennifer Tompkins, MS, LPC
Jennifer Tompkins is a Licensed Professional Counselor with more than 26 years of experience providing mental health services in both inpatient and outpatient settings. She has been in private practice for 14 years.
Mrs. Tompkins earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Therapy from the University of Alabama and completed her clinical training in music therapy at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. She earned a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Troy University.
She is a member of the International Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Foundation (IOCDF). Her advanced training through the IOCDF includes completion of two Behavior Therapy Training Institute programs (General and Pediatric), as well as ongoing continuing education through the foundation’s annual conferences.
Mrs. Tompkins focuses her practice on the treatment of OCD and related disorders. She primarily uses Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold-standard psychological treatment for OCD. She is also trained in Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), a specialized evidence-based psychotherapy developed specifically for individuals who with OCD and related conditions. She has experience treating all OCD subtypes including contamination, harm, relationship, scrupulosity/religious/moral, perfectionism, sexual, postpartum, health/somatic, existential and other forms of obsessive-compulsive symptoms.
Her additional clinical interests include Social Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Body Focused Repetitive Behaviors (Hair Pulling Disorder and Skin Picking Disorder), Tic Disorders, Specific Phobias, Separation Anxiety, Body Dysmorphia and Generalized Anxiety. In addition to ERP and ICBT, Mrs. Tompkins incorporates other evidence-based interventions based on each client’s diagnosis, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavioral Activation, Habit Reversal Training (HRT), and Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), and contingency/behavioral management.
Mrs. Tompkins provides therapy for both children and adults experiencing OCD and related disorders. She is committed to providing compassionate, evidenced-based care that empowers clients to improve their quality of life. She offers both in-office and secure telehealth appointments.
