About James Paul Callis

With over three decades of experience supporting individuals through life’s most challenging moments, I specialize in psychiatric medication management and bring a diverse background in behavioral health care to the team at Elite DNA Behavioral Health. My journey began in 1988 and has taken me through many roles—mental health technician, case manager, social services director, hospice social worker, psychotherapist, and, today, a dedicated Certified Physician Assistant focused on helping patients find relief and clarity through thoughtful medical management and support.

I hold degrees in Psychology, Psychological Counseling/Psychotherapy, and Physician Assistant Studies, and I’ve had the privilege of serving adolescents, adults, and seniors across a broad spectrum of mental health conditions. These include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, and others—often alongside co-occurring medical or developmental challenges.

My work spans a wide range of settings: hospitals, skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, correctional institutions, shelters, private homes, and community-based services. Each experience has deepened my respect for the many paths people take toward healing—and affirmed my belief that everyone deserves compassionate, personalized care.

Now treating patients ages 15 to 75 through HIPAA-compliant telemedicine, I’m proud to be part of a team that truly understands the value of connection, expertise, and trust. At Elite DNA Behavioral Health in Chesapeake, VA, we serve the greater Hampton Roads community and residents across Virginia. It’s an honor to walk alongside individuals and families as they rediscover balance and well-being.
