About Emily Flaherty
I believe therapy is a powerful agent of change that involves the dedication of both the client and the therapist. In my eyes, change and growth are realistic and achievable as long as they are desired by the client. My clients are in the driver’s seat in therapy and I am there as their supporter, helper and co-pilot as they embark on their mental health journey. As a therapist, I bring a very authentic presence to the room and strive to do whatever I can to strengthen the therapeutic alliance. Some common techniques I pull from include mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Growing up and moving through the world can be difficult and can leave us feeling alone on our journey of life. Throughout my life, I have experienced different hardships, losses, and stressors. And I have also experienced love, joy and compassion. During all of those experiences, what made it better or more joyful, was the connection and shared experiences I had with others. I became a therapist to provide that connection for others during times they need it most, times when they feel alone on their journey. My hope as your therapist is to walk alongside you on your therapeutic journey as you learn that, despite hardship, you can continue to grow and learn to live in the uncomfortable, uncertainty of life while also experiencing all of the beautiful things life has to offer.
