About Akua Owusu

Dr Akua Owusu completed medical school at the University of Ghana in 1986 and then came to the US in 1988 for residency training. Dr. Owusu first completed her internship in pediatrics at the Harlem Hospital center in New York city and realized her path was mental health. Dr. Owusu then completed her residency in psychiatry at the Beth Israel Medical center in New York city, now known as Mount Sinai Beth Israel. She has never regretted her decision and sees psychiatry not just as a vocation, but also as a calling. She moved to Florida in 1995. Dr. Owusu worked for about 14 years in Jacksonville, and then for another 14 years in Nassau county, (Yulee, Fernandina Beach and Callahan). Now serving clients at Elite DNA Behavioral Health, her goal is always to improve the quality of life of patients using the safest psychopharmacological interventions, and striving to “do no harm” in the process.
