What is Veterans Mental Health Care?
At Elite DNA, we believe in supporting those who serve in all branches of the armed forces with services specifically designed to meet the unique needs of veterans and military personnel. Studies have shown that 1 in 4 Military Veterans have a mental health condition. Veterans Mental Health is a specialized type of mental health care that involves addressing experiences that Military Veterans and active military face. Veterans Mental Health Care can involve talk therapy, psychiatry, medication management and group therapy support, applied independently or in combination, to achieve results.
Veterans and military personnel deserve and require trauma-informed mental health treatment that supports overcoming mental health symptoms and building resilience. The National Library of Medicine states that common mental health issues for Veterans include Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression and Suicide. Providing support for PTSD and depression is essential to addressing suicidal ideations, and thereby improving quality of life.

How does Veterans Mental Health Care work?
Mental Health Care is an essential type of healthcare for Veterans and active military.
Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, for Veterans must be trauma informed. Veterans with various mental health issues benefit from having an experienced therapist to talk to that can support processing of trauma through modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),
Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART).
A combination of therapy, psychiatry and medication management can strongly improve how Veterans feel. The experiences that Veterans face from serving time in the military, regardless of if they were deployed, can impact the ability to respond to stress in a healthy way. Medication management along with psychiatric care that evaluates sleep, diet, and lifestyle factors, paired with trauma-focused therapy can help.
Elite DNA accepts Veterans Benefits and insurance plans like Tricare for Mental Health Services. We also accept most insurance plans in Florida if you have additional coverage. For your mental health appointments and services to be covered by your VA health insurance plan, or TRICARE plan, there are a few steps you will need to complete for us to ensure your coverage. Our team works to make this process as easy as possible for you:
- Acquire a referral for mental health services at Elite DNA Behavioral Health from your physician at the VA (this may be dependent on how soon the VA could see you for the same services)
- We will then request authorization for coverage from the VA
- Once we receive approval, our team will call you back to schedule and request either your social security number or your 10-digit VA ID # to schedule your appointments
There are factors and requirements as dictated by your health coverage that may determine your eligibility for services. Elite DNA must follow all guidelines and processes required. Our team is experienced in filing for verification, so we do everything within our power to ensure this process is as smooth as possible.
