Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain in order to improve the symptoms of depression. At Elite DNA Behavioral Health, our goal is to provide access to effective and cutting-edge treatments in addition to traditional talk therapy and psychiatry services.
NeuroStar® Advanced Therapy (TMS) is an innovative, FDA-cleared therapy for adults 18 to 70 years of age that can help people who struggle with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
TMS is not electroconvulsive therapy.
NeuroStar® Advanced Therapy is administered in a relaxing office setting. TMS helps activate the natural function of the brain’s neurotransmitters using a non-invasive magnetic field. Precisely targeted NeuroStar® Advanced Therapy makes long-term remission from Major Depressive Disorder possible.
Many insurance companies have established medical coverage policies for TMS Therapy. Our financial team can answer any specific questions you may have regarding coverage.
TMS Therapy is available at the following locations: Fort Myers, Naples, Jacksonville, and Port Charlotte.
How Does Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy Work?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) uses a targeted pulsed magnetic field similar to what is used in an MRI. You are awake and alert during treatment and can resume your normal activities immediately after treatment.
What is a Session of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy Like?
You’ll receive your treatments in a comfortable room. You’ll be seated in a chair and given ear protection to wear during the session.
An electromagnetic coil will be placed against your scalp and turned on and off to generate stimulating pulses. You’ll feel a tapping sensation and hear a clicking sound. This will last for a few seconds.
Your provider will determine the amount of magnetic stimulation you need to reach your “motor threshold”. This is the amount of stimulation you need for the treatment to be most effective.
Throughout treatment, your amount of stimulation may be altered based on your results, symptoms, or side effects.
Does Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy Replace Other Treatments for Depression?
Your doctor or care coordinator will discuss your tailored treatment plan with you. Depending on your situation, you may continue to take prescription medications and continue talk therapy to support you on your mental health journey.

Success Stories from Patients Who Benefited from TMS Therapy
“I have experienced years and years of depression. Five times I was admitted to mental facilities. Occasionally medicine would help temporarily, but the dark veil of depression was always present. Thoughts of suicide went through my mind often, and at times, seemed like the only way to get relief from the heavy weight of depression. Dr. Toledo suggested TMS Therapy for me. At the end of the treatments, I could feel the darkness and depression lifting away.”
“I just wanted to say how pleased I am with all the people I had contact with during my treatment. The doctor was kind and caring, Rose was a sweetheart and very efficient, but my technician Jay was outstanding! She’d made it a pleasure to come in and let the woodpecker do its job by his sweet disposition and good work ethic. I feel I was greatly encouraged with my treatment and would recommend it to others.”
