About Penny Carey

My name is Dr. Penny Carey. I am an Air Force Veteran who has lived and worked around the world, and I am excited to finally settle in Florida. I am originally from Colorado and have worked in the mental health field for more than 19 years. I earned my MA in Clinical Psychology and my PsyD in Clinical Psychology from the Colorado School of Professional Psychology. I am dual-licensed. In Florida I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Qualified Supervisor for Mental Health Counselor (MHC) and Marriage and Family Counselor (MFT) registered interns. In Colorado I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Supervisor for Licensed Professional Counselor Candidates (LPCC) and Marriage and Family Therapist Candidates (MFTC).

I have been blessed to be able to work with a wide variety of clients in my career, from in-patient, outpatient and forensic settings. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, adults and families and specialize in trauma/PTSD, military, eating disorders, adolescent sex offenders, childhood disorders and co-occurring disorders.

I don’t believe there is one therapy that works for everyone, and I like to use an eclectic approach to my therapy, using a wide variety of treatment modalities. This includes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, EMDR, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Art, and Experiential Therapy. I try to meet the client where you are and empower you to be in control of your therapy journey. I look forward to working with you!
